Speakers’ Bio

 

Betty Wiens, M.Sc.

Betty Wiens started her career working as a chemist in the Environmental Testing department of Maxxam Analytics. After more than 10 years as a GC and GC/MS specialist, she transitioned to the Pharmaceutical Industry, working for 15+ years at Taro Pharmaceuticals as an Analytical Chemist and Supervisor in the Analytical Research and Development group with responsibilities for HPLC method development, testing of packaging components, raw materials, and products, Health & Safety, and quality practices. In 2015 she made another significant career change to become Analytical Development Manager at the Centre for Probe Development and Commercialization (CDPC) – a Radiopharmaceutical Manufacturer in Hamilton.
 

With an M.Sc. in Chemistry, and over 20 years in management, she has extensive experience in recruiting and training new staff. She has a particular interest in promoting science as a career choice and is a staunch advocate for continuing education (personal and intellectual) as a path to career advancement.

 

Nooshin Nakhai, B.Sc.

Nooshin has nearly two decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry comprising various analytical and chromatography techniques used in the Quality Control laboratories. Her expertise are in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain Management, and GMP in pharmaceutical field. As a manager, she is involved in planning, organizing, directing and controlling operations in a GMP environment. She is proficient in GMP documentation, conducting laboratory investigations, writing OOS reports and protocols. She has been involved in numerous regulatory (FDA and HPFBI) and client-driven audits.

 
Nooshin holds Bachelor of Technology in Applied Chemical and Biological Sciences from Ryerson Polytechnic University, Toronto, Ontario. She currently works as QC Manager at SGS and is also a part-time professor teaching QA/GMP as part of Pharmaceutical program at Seneca College, Toronto.
